The Life and Times of Gary Zaydman

There are many extraordinary men and women in the world who go above and beyond to make other people’s lives better. Gary Zaydman is one of them, which makes his story worth telling. Gary Zaydman is the CEO of Gary Zaydman, his personal consulting firm.

He has been in this field for over 30 years and he specializes in three different areas: marketing strategy development, brand positioning, and sales training. Many people say that Gary has all the necessary leadership skills, like:

  • Self-development.
  • Team development.
  • Strategic thinking and acting.
  • Ethical practice and civic-mindedness.
  • Innovation.

Where It All Started

Gary was born on  January 21, 1958, in Brooklyn, New York. Gary’s father was also a businessman and he had his own social service agency which Gary worked for on weekends while growing up. Gary went to college at the age of 16 because he wanted to get out of Long Island as quickly as possible. He attended Stony Brook University where he earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees before moving onto Harvard Business School from 1984-1986 for an MBA graduate degree that focused more specifically on marketing strategy development.

After growing up on Long Island Gary decided that he was going to move out west to enjoy life in California and see what it had to offer him. Gary always loved technology so landing a job at Apple seemed like an obvious choice for him, after all, they were pretty much inventing new things every day! Gary began working at Apple in September of 1985 after he beat out several other candidates for the job. Gary stayed with Apple for over three years before deciding it was time to move on and try something else, so Gary started his own business- Gary Zaydman Consulting Group (GZCG).

The First Steps of GZCG

Gary worked hard every day running GZCG while also trying to find new clients who may be interested in what Gary had to offer them. This proved more difficult than Gary originally thought because many people were wary about hiring someone they had never heard of before. Eventually, Gary ran some ads that made him look like a very credible source which helped convince people that Gary could help their company grow exponentially if given the chance. By March 1988 this tactic seemed to be working so Gary decided to go all in and hire a staff of over six people, which he had never done before. Gary’s biggest fear was that his business would start growing at such a rapid pace that Gary wouldn’t be able to keep up with it himself- Gary is the kind of guy who likes to know everything about what goes on inside his company!

Gary has been quoted as saying: “If I don’t like something then we won’t do it.” That attitude certainly helps explain why Gary is such an effective leader. He knows exactly where he wants GZCG to stand out from its competition and make its mark in the industry. It didn’t take long for this approach to pay off either; by 1991 Gary Zaydman was being paid more money than he ever dreamed possible. Gary’s business continued to grow throughout the early 1990s until Gary decided it was time for a change in 1994, so Gary sold GZCG off to his top consultant John Dickey who is now known as President of Gary Zaydman Consulting Group.
